Many of my pieces begin as photographs. I edit them on the computer and this editing process has taken me about 10 years to develop. A piece of art that you see in print form in my studio took hours and hours of work. I laugh sometimes when I realize that it's faster sometimes to paint these images than to work them up on the computer. But the computer is one of my mediums, so I have as much fun as I can with it.
Many times with other artist's work, when you buy a print, you're buying a scan of an original painting, which is then printed. Many of my pieces however were created on the computer, not painted. So the computer file is the original, not a second generation version of an original. My images were designed to be best viewed when printed through a high resolution archival deskjet printer. I print small editions and often each print is different from the one before in color variations and size. I never print the entire edition at once, choosing to print more as the ones in the studio are purchased. Each print is signed, dated and numbered.
With the new spring series, I've chosen to just print one of the three new images. Since they are one-of-a-kind, I'm referring to them as "digital originals". Once each piece sells, I'll destroy the computer file.
